Lastly, if you’re exploring remote areas like Polihua Beach or Keahiakawelo (Garden of the Gods), be sure to come prepared with plenty of food and water, as well as a first aid kit.
Touristy quesitons
The North Shore of Maui can often be less touristy, although it still offers plenty of activities for visitors. There are many beautiful beaches to explore, such as Honokohau Beach and Makena State Park. Also, the nearby town of Paia is a great place to find unique shops and restaurants.
The West Side of Maui is known for its picturesque beaches and awe-inspiring sunsets. Kaanapali Beach, Olowalu Beach, and DT Fleming Beach are some of the most beautiful spots in the area. With its lush hillsides and perfect weather year-round, this part of the island is a must-see for any visitor.
Questions about where to stay
We generally recommend avoiding the south side of the island due to its lack of beaches and attractions. The South Side is typically much more expensive than other parts of Maui and its hotels can be overcrowded with tourists. If you’re looking for a quieter, more laid-back experience, consider staying on the North Shore or West Side instead.
It depends on what kind of experience you would like to have. If you are looking for an active vacation with plenty of activities, Kihei and Wailea could be a great choice. For beach lovers, Napili Bay has some of the best beaches in Maui.
If you’re just passing through, staying near the airport is a great option for convenience. Lastly, if you’re looking for something off the beaten path, Lanai is a great place to explore Hawaii’s smallest inhabited island.
This depends on what kind of experience you’re looking for. If you want to take your time exploring Maui and its many activities, we recommend staying at least five days so that you can experience all the island has to offer. However, if you want a more relaxed vacation with plenty of beach time, three days would be enough.
Best areas of Maui
Most areas in Maui are walkable, but Lahaina is one of the best. There are plenty of restaurants, shops, and galleries to explore as you wander through this historic town. For a more beachy experience, Kihei is also walkable and offers some great spots for swimming or sunset watching.
Maui is a tropical climate, so it rarely gets cold at night. Temperatures typically range from 65 to 85 degrees Fahrenheit year-round. However, during the winter months, you may want to bring a light jacket for cooler evenings.
Both Kihei and Wailea offer an array of activities and attractions. Kihei is a more laid-back town with great beaches, while Wailea has some of the island’s best resorts and golf courses.
Kaanapali offers stunning sunsets and a beautiful beachfront walkway, making it one of Maui’s most popular destinations. Ultimately, it depends on what kind of experience you’re looking for – but all three are great options!
