Beach House Restaurant Review: Is It Worth Visiting?

Oceanfront Dining, Island Flavors, and One Unforgettable Sunset in Poipu on Kauai, Hawaii

The Beach House Restaurant in Poipu, Kauai, had been on our radar for a while thanks to its oceanfront location and reputation as one of the top spots on the island to catch the sunset. With views over Lawai Beach and a menu filled with locally-sourced seafood and island-inspired dishes, it seemed like the perfect place for a special evening out. Here’s our honest review.

Atmosphere and Setting

The Beach House Restaurant is all about the view. With open-air seating overlooking the ocean, this place is made for sunset dining. The vibe is upscale yet relaxed—perfect for couples, small groups, or even a romantic celebration. The sound of waves crashing nearby and tiki torches glowing after dusk make it feel distinctly Hawaiian. We were seated on the outdoor lanai, and the view alone made the reservation worth it.

What We Ordered

We started with drinks—one refreshing mango lemonade and a classic mai tai that packed a punch. For entrees, we ordered the Macadamia Nut Crusted Fresh Hawaiian Fish and the Filet Mignon.

The fish was beautifully cooked and paired with a citrusy sauce that added brightness to each bite. The filet was tender, flavorful, and cooked perfectly medium. We wrapped up the meal with their Coconut Crème Brûlée, which had the perfect crackly top and a tropical twist.

Photo tip: Snap your food pics early—once the sun sets, it gets dim and romantic, but a little tricky for photos.

Price and Value

Beach House is definitely on the pricier side ($$$), but for a special evening with a view like that, we felt it was worth the splurge. Appetizers run around $15–$25, mains are $40+, and cocktails are in the $15 range. It’s not somewhere we’d go every night, but it’s perfect for a memorable dinner. Check the menu to see the current options.

Best Time to Go

Hands down—go for sunset. Make a reservation on OpenTable well in advance (especially if you want outdoor seating) and aim for a time about 30 minutes before sunset. That way, you get to enjoy golden hour, your meal, and then dessert by torchlight.

Location and How to Get There

Located in Poipu on Kauai’s south shore, the Beach House sits right by Lawai Beach. If you’re staying in Poipu or Koloa, it’s a short drive. There’s valet parking available, or limited self-parking in the area. It’s not walkable from most resorts, so plan to drive or take a ride share.

Tips for Visiting

  • Make reservations early, especially for sunset.
  • Ask for a lanai table for the best ocean view.
  • Dress is resort casual—think sundresses and aloha shirts.
  • Try to arrive early to take photos by the seawall before dinner.

Our Personal Experience

We booked our reservation a few weeks out and scored a table right on the lanai. As the sun began to dip below the horizon, we clinked glasses of mai tai and mango lemonade and couldn’t stop marveling at the view.

The sunset, as we were eating, was nothing short of spectacular. Before dinner, we even spotted a sea turtle swimming near the sea wall, which felt like a little bit of island magic. The service was attentive without being pushy, and our server helped us pick the best dishes.

We loved the Filet Mignon and the Macadamia Nut Crusted Fresh Hawaiian Fish, and the Coconut Crème Brûlée was the perfect sweet ending (so good I forgot to take a photo until we had eaten most of it). It was one of our favorite evenings in Kauai, and we’d definitely go back for a special occasion.
