To protect the delicate coral reef ecosystem, Hanauma Bay is a designated Nature Preserve. As such, there is an entrance fee for all visitors over the age of 12. The current admission fee is $25 per person and can be paid in cash or by credit card upon arrival at the park’s ticket booth.
Children under the age of 12, active military, and residents of Hawaii with a valid ID can enter for free. Additionally, all visitors are required to watch an educational video on preserving the reef before entering.
Hanauma Bay is open every day except Monday and Tuesday from 6:45 am to 4:00 pm. The last entry is at 2:00 pm. Tip: To avoid crowds, it’s best to arrive early in the morning or later in the afternoon.

Due to the bay’s popularity, reservations are now required for all visitors. This measure was put in place to protect the marine life and ensure the bay can sustain a healthy ecosystem for years to come. You can easily make Hanauma Bay reservations online through the official Hanauma Bay website.
Online reservations are opened at 7:00 am Hawaii Standard Time (HST) 2 days in advance. Tickets are limited and go fast, and are for a specific time slot to enter. In case you are unable to make an online reservation, you can always purchase a walk-in ticket at the park.
However, please note that walk-in tickets are only available for purchase when the park opens at 6:45 a.m. Also, it is important to keep in mind that walk-in tickets can only be used on the day of purchase. To ensure that you can get a walk-in ticket, it is a good idea that you arrive early, as the number of daily walk-in tickets is limited and they tend to sell out very quickly.
Since we couldn’t secure tickets through the online reservation system, we decided to arrive at the park when it opened. Fortunately, we managed to obtain entry tickets within just an hour of our arrival.

Hanauma Bay is a popular tourist destination, so parking can be limited. There are two parking lots at Hanauma Bay, with a combined capacity of about 300 cars. The parking fee is $3.00. If these lots are full, you will need to find alternative parking near the entrance of the park. There is also a round-trip shuttle service available from Waikiki, making transportation more convenient for those without a rental car.
Tip: If you plan on driving, arrive early to secure a parking spot and avoid the hassle of finding alternative parking.
Snorkel Equipment Rental
If you don’t have your own snorkeling equipment, no worries! You can easily rent it from the rental shops at the bay. The rental fee for a complete set of a mask, fins, and snorkel is approximately $20 per day.
However, if you already have your own gear, feel free to bring it along and skip the lines at the rental place.
Safety Briefing and Rules
Before heading to the water, all visitors are required to watch a short video (9 minutes) about the safety briefing, marine life, preservation and conservation of the bay, and the park rules. It is essential to follow the rules, such as not walking on the coral reef, not touching the marine life, and not feeding them.
Violating the rules will result in a fine, and it compromises the safety and health of the sea life.
